Todo Azul's rendition of "Santa Baby", a 1953 Christmas song written by Joan Javits (the niece of Jacob K. Javits), Philip Springer, and Tony Springer. The song is a tongue in cheek look at a Christmas list sung by a woman who wants the most extravagant gifts like sable, yachts and decorations from Tiffany's. "What it means to be a Martyr" (Feast of Holy Innocents '08)

ALMIGHTY God, who hast given us thy only-begotten Son to take our nature upon him, and as at this time to be born of a pure virgin; Grant that we being regenerate, and made thy children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by thy Holy Spirit; through the same our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the same Spirit ever, one God, world without end. Amen.O ALMIGHTY God, who out of the mouths of babes and sucklings hast ordained strength, and madest infants to glorify thee by their deaths; Mortify and kill all vices in us, and so strengthen us by thy grace, that by the innocency of our lives, and constancy of our faith even unto death, we may glorify thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. For the Epistle. Revelation xiv. 1. I LOOKED, and, lo, a Lamb stood on the mount Sion, and with him an hundred forty and four thousand, having his Father's name written in their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of a great thunder: and I heard the voice of harpers harping with their harps: and they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four living creatures, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth. These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no guile: for they are without fault before the throne of God.The Gospel. St. Matthew ii. 13. THE angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him. When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt: and was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son. Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men. Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.MUSIC: Battle Hymn of the Republic, on the CD Great Marches, with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic OrchestraBogoroditsye dyevo, on the CD Christmas, by The Kings SingersWeekly meditations on the Sunday propers of the 1928 Book of Common Prayer, by the Rt Rev. The Vonettes - Touch My Heart
Posted on January 01, 2009 in Maternity consignment
Released back in October 2008, a tremendously exciting project for Northern Soul fans everywhere. We've done a deal with Wienerworld, a major music DVD company, and the same company who originally released our classic documentary "The Strange World Of Northern Soul", and we have now released the definitive DVD box set. A five disc set of 200 performances called "Northern Soul's Greatest 200 Floorfillers". This uses some songs from "The Strange World Of Northern Soul" which are completely re-edited, so they look fresh and sparkling new. All the previous video effects done in the 1990s are gone forever, consigned to history. Plus loads and loads of never before seen videos, many of which have sat in the can untouched for many many years. Plus some newly recorded tributes to the classics. If you ever went to Blackpool Mecca or Wigan Casino, this is the must-have purchase of the year. In putting together this box set, we have nearly all the biggest all time blockbusters, "Out On The Floor", "Night Owl', "I'm On My Way", "Time Will Pass You By", "Blowing My Mind To Pieces", "Do I Love You", all sung by the original singers. We believe this will go down in history as the greatest Northern Soul DVD collection of all time. Here, Van McCoy's classic girl group, The Vonettes, sing their Blackpool Mecca and Golden Torch anthem, on Cobblestone Records, "Touch My Heart". The lead singer of the Vonettes was Kendra Spotswood, also known to all Northern Soul fans as Sandi Sheldon. For many years, Sandi Sheldon had been a mystery to us. Along with Leon Haywood's "Baby Reconsider", her song, "You're Gonna Make Me Love You", on the legendary Okeh label, was one of the major records to turn an underground scene about Motownesque rare soul, into what we truly know as Northern Soul today. It was so supremely rare and brilliant in its obscurity, to create a whole generation of fans and record collectors. Sandi Sheldon was Van McCoy's girlfriend. Her real name was Kendra Spotswood, under which she first recorded for Van, on the Tuff label. Then she recorded for Phillips as Kenni Woods, and then as Sandi Sheldon on Okeh, also becoming lead singer of Van's girl group, The Vonettes, on Cobblestone Records. I was desperate to track her down for The Strange World Of Northern Soul documentary, and this took years to do, because, along with Tobi Legend and Dean Parrish, she was one of the three names who'd made massive Northern Soul classics, who had remained the most elusive to find over the years. So I finally did locate who she was through Van McCoy's sister, Mattie Taylor. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia, and is a truly warm and lovely person, and was so excited to come to England in 2002 and perform , for the first time, a record that had become almost a religious experience for fans of Northern Soul over the previous thirty three years prior to that. And of course we re-recorded it and filmed it for posterity. And then reformed the Vonettes as well, to sing "Touch My Heart". We believe this will go down in history as the greatest Northern Soul DVD collection of all time. Here, the classic and much adored Detroit soul singer, Eddie Parker, is singing "I'm Gone", which was yet another legendary Northern Soul smash, that we filmed for "The Strange World Of Northern Soul". This is a piece of classic 1960s Detroit which epitomised the early days of Blackpool Mecca, championed by Tony Jebb back in the very early days of the Highland Room, way back in 1971 and 1972, prior to the Torch opening. It still sounds great but has been much forgotten and neglected over the years, and in the early 1970s was way overshadowed by Eddie's other Northern Soul monster, "Love You Baby", on the Ashford label. In recent years though, "I'm Gone" has become one of the scene's most sought after records. It was a piece of Motownesque joyful exhuberance on the Awake label, owned by one of Motown's legendary Funk Brothers, Jack Ashford, from 1967, that golden year, and as fine a piece of Northern Soul as you could ever wish to hear. And the very quintessence of the mid Sixties. We recut it in 1999 when we were filming our marathon six disc, twenty four hour massive documentary about the entire history of the Northern Soul scene, which contained 131 specially recorded performances of all the classics, and is still available on a six disc box set from Wienerworld. So, we tracked down Eddie Parker in Detroit, via Lorraine Chandler, and filmed him, and he was more than happy to make this one and only one-time performance especially for us, for our ground breaking Encyclopedia Britannica of Northern Soul, and I am so glad that we did. Mercy Ministries claimed copyright to videos I uploaded about the abuse stories from their patients, a television poop about it and an interview with former patients about it! How can those videos be owned by Mercy Ministries?????????????Mercy Ministries made false claims to stop persons seeing their ongoing abuse.Thank to katieflowerpowerhttp://au.youtube.com/user/katieflowe...for making that video:Mercy Ministries have lodged a heap of copyright infringement notices and had Youtube remove videos containing 'fair use' (DMCA) objective. The videos were exposing Mercy Ministries' contraversial use of exorcisms and extra practices to treat mental illness.Go to http://cynicsage.blogspot.com/2008/10... to treasure trove out more about how you can take a stand against abuse. If you believe that abusing the mentally ill is wrong, and if you believe Youtube should respect DMCA 'fair use' and review videos before taking them down and banning vendees, please repost that video!Download it from http://www.keepvid.com and re-upload it on your Youtube version.Music: "How countless times, how uncounted lies" sung by Girlicious, with thanks to kellyclarksonismad Author: silverrose72 Keywords: mercy ministries hillsong abuse dmca copyright infringement pregnancy addictions self-harm anorexia fair use Added: October 22, 2008

The Carstairs - Stick By Me Baby

Here, the classic and much adored soul group, The Carstairs, perform a classic Blackpool Mecca anthem originally cut by The Salvadors, called "Stick By Me Baby". We also re-recorded them doing "He Who Picks A Rose", and that song by The Carstairs, originally released on the Okeh label, was a cover of the Motown song first cut by Jimmy Ruffin, but initially unreleased, and then released by Edwin Starr. It was a massive Northern Soul monster, but nowhere near in the same league as their iconic classic, "It Really Hurts Me Girl", which was the biggest record EVER at Blackpool Mecca. Back in the day, when there was no internet, we could never locate the group, despite many attempts. In 1998, for the unique one-off Blackpool Mecca reunion, I was just determined to find them, and after four months of searching, I did. Twenty five years after they thought their single had never even been released, they were on stage at Blackpool Mecca, singing it on the Saturday night in front of over a thousand people, in the Highland Room which was only supposed to hold seven hundred. They were moved to tears, especially Cleveland Horne, and founder member Ervin Langley. Tragically, within two years, those two of them had passed away. But at least they got to stand just once in the limelight. It could never ever happen again, it was a one time moment in history, and because of the iconic nature of their record, this footage is priceless beyond belief. They performed three songs, "It Really Hurts Me Girl", this version of The Salvadors "Stick My Me Baby", and "He Who Picks A Rose".
